Chinese export famille rose tankard, Qianlong

Description

A good quality and large Chinese export tankard with ribbed moulding to the exterior, decorated in famille rose enamels, and dating from the Qianlong period. The tankard is decorated with two women in a garden landscape beneath a Du Pacquier style border at the rim, below which is a garland of small flower heads.  The base of the handle is moulded with a lingzi fungus head.  Height 13.1 cm (5.2").

We have included a photograph of this tankard next to a typical Chinese export coffee cup to illustrate the difference in size.  (Coffee cup included for scale only!)

Dating: Qianlong 1736-1795

Condition
This tankard is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or restoration. There is a firing fault inside the handle near the point where it joins the body (see images) and a small glaze frit to the lingzhi fungus head at the base if the handle.
