A charming small Chinese export coffee can, originally imported into Europe as an underglaze blue item, and then decorated in London with overglaze enamels in 'Limehouse class'. The outside of the can is attractively decorated with flowers using famille rose enamels. There are two flowers painted in the interior of the cup (one of which is painted to disguise a firing fault in the base) Height 5.9cm (2.3").
From the collection of Bernard Watney (part of lot 63 at the Bonhams sale of The Watney Collection of Chinese Porcelain Decorated in Holland and England on 7th November 2003). From our personal collection.
