Description

An attractive Chinese chocolate cup or small beaker dating from Yongzheng or early Qianlong period with added European overglaze enameling in famille rose palette. When imported into Europe this cup was decorated in underglaze blue with a delicate decoration of vertical lines with flower sprays. The cup was then decorated in Europe with overglaze famille rose enamels, probably in Holland (Amsterdams Bont) with 3 different floral bouquets.  Height of cup 6.8cm (2.7)

Provenance

By repute, from the collection of Paolo Venini, founder of Venini Glass on the island of Murano, and displayed in his house in Venice on the Grand Canal for many years.

Date
The cup Yongzheng to early Qianlong, the enamels added at the same period.

Condition
This cup is in very good condition, with just a small amount of chipping at the rim (see final image) and a little roughness to the foot rim.  No cracks and no restoration. The cup has been potted with a slight lean to one side.
